Good Records
DALLAS, TX • 9026 Garland Rd, Dallas, TX 75218
When life takes us to Dallas, we check out a couple of stores without fail. We’ll talk about the massive Josey Records next week. his week we want to sing the praises of Good Records. At Josey, the sheer size lets you know you can find something good. At Good, the curated selection is so tight, you know you’re going to find a treasure. Or two. Or six.
Seven years or so ago, they moved into a larger spot on Garland, moving from tighter conditions on Greenville, but they’re still not even close to the size of some of the mega-stores on this list, and they make every inch of that small footprint worth digging into.
The curation is the whole point here. As of this writing, the top pre-orders on their website are records from Remi Wolf, Aphex Twin, Erykah Badu, The Fontaines DC, Sufjan Stevens, and Cameron Winter.
Come often for the frequent in-stores and a new arrivals wall that actually reflects what the staff is into, in glorious eclecticism. This is the kind of shop where everybody behind the counter is there because they love music, but they love sharing it more. Oh, yeah. The pricing here is among the best we’ve enountered in years.
Good Records has been doing it their way for over 25 years without losing their passion. Even better it’s right next door to the swank, but reasonably priced, The Lounge Here (owned by Julie Doyle of Tripping Daisy & The Polyphonic Spree) where you can go to refuel and read the liner notes (get the Borracho Mussels).
