Originally recorded in sessions from 1969-72 for Philly Groove Records at the legendary Sigma Sounds Studio, this went unreleased until students at Drexel University, where the Sigma Sounds archive is kept, uncovered it and used their Mad Dragon label to partner for a release with Vinyl Me Please (before things there went sideways) in 2019.
Unabashedly political, with fiery guitars and blistering horns and lyrical themes rooted in the Black Power movement, we’d argue if Philly Groove had put this out back then, we’d be talking about Nat Turner Rebellion in the same breath as Sly & The Family Stone. Soul-funk swagger at its fiercest. This got another re-issue in 2021, under the Philly Grooves/Chrysalis Records imprint.
