TELEPHONO
SPOON
INDIE ROCK • 1996 • MATADOR
Spoon was still growing into themselves when they hit the studio to record ‘Telephono,’ their first full length, but the DNA is there. Sure, the Pixies, Wire and Pavement influences are maybe a little too apparent, but the raw, spiky energy is infectious, and you can squint and see where Britt Daniel’s songwriting is going to go, hear the origins of his unmistakable phrasing and, most of all, lock in on Jim Eno’s anchoring rhythms on drums.
Turn this one up, play it loud; pure 90s indie fun.
