NOW DIGGING

Music Millennium

PORTLAND, OR • 3158 E Burnside St, Portland, OR 97214

Portland is widely cited as having the most per capita record stores of any city in the US. We can’t actually locate a citation that backs that up, but there’s for sure a lot of quality places to look for records there.

The oldest of them is Music Millennium, a store perhaps best known for its feud with Garth Brooks, an on-going refusal to stock his records (new or used) and a yearly BBQ that began when they lit up a stack of Brooks’ CDs in protest over Garth wanting to ban used record sales.

But it was also a pioneer of the live ‘in-store’ appearance for bands hitting town and local heroes made good, and has been doing its thing, in one location or another, since 1969.

The Staff Picks are always worth reading, the place is huge, it’s a maze, and once you get digging, holds everything from the mainstream to the wildly obscure.
